The Centennial Booklet 1970 tells us that the two school bells at the school had quite a history.  An old bell hanging outside the school fell to pieces around the 1950's and a replacement from the old Wai-iti School was procured.  From Centennial funds a wrought iron frame was erected to hold the bell.  The second bell was originally from the Anchor Company's ship S.S. Titoki, which traded between the West Coast and Nelson 1923-1957.
